Ancient tie-dye tradition in Buri Ram
In the community of Khok Muang in Prakhon Chai district of Buri Ram province, the tradition of tie-dye fabric reflects the local culture. A distinctive tradition passed down through generations involves using silk fabric imprinted with patterns extracted from carvings on the stone pillars of Prasat Muang Tam, an ancient Khmer Hindu temple. In recent years, the clay from ancient ponds, dating back 1,000 years, has been utilised to dye the fabric. This not only enhances the beauty of the colours but also makes the fabric softer.
