LONG LIVE THE KING
Thailands kronprins, Maha Vajiralongkorn, bliver landets nye konge, efter at han torsdag blev inviteret til at indtage tronen af parlamentets ledere, oplyser det statslige tv i Bangkok.
- Thailands parlamentsformand har mødtes med kronprinsen og formelt inviteret ham til at blive landets konge, hedder det.
Kronprinsen har accepteret at overtage tronen, efter at han modtog parlamentets initiation, som formaliserer tronskiftet. Maha Vajiralongkorn har haft status af kronprins siden 1972.
Hans officielle navn bliver Kong Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, og han vil som konge blive kendt under navnet Rama X.
Regeringen har erklæret et års landesorg i Thailand efter kong Bhumibols død den 13. oktober. Den afdøde konge blev af de fleste opfattet som en garant for sikkerhed og kontinuitet i Thailands politiske liv.
