Charter court disqualifies Jatuporn
The Constitution Court on Friday disqualified Jatuporn Prompan as a Pheu Thai Party list MP on the grounds that his membership of the party terminated when he was jailed, reports said.
The court judges voted seven to one to strip Mr Jatuporn of his status as an MP, the reports said.
The Election Commission on Nov 29, 2011 ruled to disqualify the co-leader of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship for not voting in the July 3 general election.
The EC voted four to one to disqualify Jatuporn, a prominent leadere of red shirt movement, who was detained in prison when the general election took place in July.
The EC then forwarded Mr Jatuporn’s case to the Constitution Court for final approval.
Mr Jatuporn said earlier this morning that he would accept the court's ruling, whether it went in his favour or against him.
About 100 red-shirts showed up at the court in a show of support. They were not happy with the ruling, but there were no incidents.
