Thai Cyber Police and a commando unit searched a house owned by the Deputy National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, often called in Thai media by his nickname as “Big Joke,” on Monday morning, September 25th, after they discovered an alleged link between him and an online gambling ring.
Nothing was found, however, during the search and Pol. General Hakparn denied all the allegations and accusations.

Top cop 'Big Joke' says search of his house 'political'
Dishonest, intended to discredit and ruin his reputation, says deputy police chief

Deputy national police chief Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn has slammed the search of his home in Bangkok on Monday morning as dishonest and attributed it to political manoeuvring within the Office of the Royal Thai Police.

Speaking to reporters about 12.40pm at the Police Club on Vibhavadi Rangsit road, Pol Gen Surachate said the search of his house, in Soi Vibhavadi 60, was dishonest because in seeking the warrant cyber crime police gave the court only the number of the house to be searched. They did not tell the court who owned the place.

In fact, many of the police who showed up for the search knew that it was his house, he said.

Further suspicion has been cast on the Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn after a video recorded by a renowned Thai lawyer showed Big Joke singing with a leading online gambling operator at a party.

The former president of the Lamphun Warrior Football Club, Pongsiri “Tarn” Ratchawongsuek, and a Thai woman named Suchanan, also known as Minnie, were arrested for running online gambling websites.

Following their arrest, police conducted further investigations and found that eight police officers were reportedly involved in the illegal businesses.

'Big Joke' suspended from police force
Acting chief signs order as investigation into gambling links and money laundering
continues

The acting national police chief has suspended deputy chief Surachate
Hakparn and four subordinates accused of involvement with an online
gambling network, according to a source familiar with the case.

The source said Pol Gen Kitrat Panphet signed the order, which took
immediate effect on Thursday.

Apart from Pol Gen Surachate, aka Big Joke, the order applied to Pol Col
Kittichai Sangkhathaworn, deputy police commander of Songkhla province;
Pol Lt Col Krit Pariyaket, deputy chief of the Phra Samut Chedi police station
in Samut Prakan; and two traffic patrol policemen: Pol Sgt Natthawut
Wadwaew and Pol Sgt Natthanan Chuchak.

All five are suspected of being involved in money-laundering in relation to the
BNK Master gambling network.

Sidelined deputy police chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn went to police headquarters on Thursday to appeal against his suspension and vowed to take legal action against any opponents who try to block him from becoming the next national police chief.

Pol Gen Surachate, wearing a suit and tie instead of his uniform, said he had sent his complaints to the Police Commission and an ethics committee of the Royal Thai Police. He said the order by acting national chief Kitrat Panphet was illegitimate because the rules state that a suspension must be proposed by relevant investigators first.

But in his case, he said, the investigation committee was formed on the same day he was suspended. He said he also planned to file complaints with the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases against Pol Gen Kitrat, other commissioners and commanders who, he alleged, were involved in a movement to suspend him from the force.
