All vehicles joining the department’s Taxi VIP project must be fitted out with GPS, credit card readers, panoramic cameras, emergency buttons, and fare meters connected to a central control system.
Any company wishing to join must have a fleet size of at least 20 cars. The Land Transport Department expect 5,000 VIP taxis to be on the roads by the end of 2018.
