The National Council for Peace and Order yesterday warned members of the public not to buy “gold” commemorative bank notes, saying the government has not issued them.
Colonel Piyapong Klinphan, spokesman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said the authorities had learned that the commemorative notes were made in China by some opportunists to cash in on the sorrow of Thais.
The notes were printed in a gold colour and were being sold at Bt1,000 each.
“People must not buy the notes. They’re trying to take advantage of Thais,” the spokesman said.
He said the notes had been circulated in Chiang Mai and the NCPO had instructed concerned agencies to take action against those behind their distribution.
