Man beheaded in Yala, councillor shot in Pattani¨
A man was beheaded and his body burned in Yala and a TAO member was seriously wounded in Pattani in continued violence in the far South on Thursday.
In Yala, a trader was killed, beheaded and incinerated inside his pickup truck on a road in Bannang Sata district on Thursday morning, Pol Lt Sulkifri Rase, the duty officer at Bannang Sata police station, said.
Pol Lt Sulkifri said he was informed about 7am that a man had been shot dead and burned on the Talingchan-Sisakhon road near Ban Lipo Sato in tambon Talingchan.
A police team led by Pol Col Charoen Thamkhan, the Bannang Sata police chief, hurried to the scene.
They found a Toyota pickup truck that had been destroyed by fire and the beheaded body of a man in the back of the vehicle. The body was badly burned.
The man's head was found about five metres from the vehicle. There was a bullet wound in the head.
A bottle of petrol was also found at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Tuanda-o Tuansulong, 58, a trader of village No 10 in tambon Talingchan.
Police investigators learned that Tuanda-o was driving alone in his pickup, heading for Muang district of Yala. He was stopped on the way by a group of men, who shot him in the head, chopped off his head and threw it on the roadside before setting the vehicle on fire.
Police were investigating.
In Pattani, a member of a tambon administration organisation (TAO) was shot and seriously wounded in Sai Buri district.
Pol Col Aziz Umayee, the Sai Buri police chief, said Ayu Buraheng, 52, a member of Paseyao TAO in Sai Buri district, was riding a motorcycle on a road to tambon Paseyao and was shot with a .38 pistol by a man who followed him on another motorcycle.
Mr Ayu was hit in the neck and seriously wounded. He was admitted to Sai Buri Hospital.
Police were investigating whether the attack was motivated by a personal conflict.
