A wealthy danish national who killed himself on feb. 4 in a hotel in Lamai had his suicide preparation recorded on video.
Mr. Jen Villa, 59, also left a suicide note in his room at a beachfront hotel in Lamai.
A hotel staff who entered the room to clean it found Mr. Villa’s body hanging from a chord tied to the shower pipe in the bathroom.
The victim was only wearing underwear. Both the air-conditioner and the TV were on when the staff opened the room.
Police believed Mr. Villa, who owned a business in den- mark, had been dead for five to seven hours before his body was discovered.
No evidence of any foul play was found in the room, investigators said. A can of beer, cigarette butts and several packs of sleep medication were found on the bathroom floor.
Beside the suicide note was a video camera.
When police turned it on, they found video footage of Mr. Villa complaining about his many problems while tying the chord.
The recording, which runs for 17 minutes and 30 seconds, also shows Mr. Villa trying the other end of the chord to the shower. He was later shown taking sleeping pills and drinking beer.
The suicide itself is not shown in the video, however. A hotel employee said the victim, a regular in the hotel, was very friendly to the staff. So they never imagined he would commit suicide in the hotel.
Mr. Villa’s wife, Chuan- chom Waewla, 48, who arrived from Hua Hin, told police she didn’t have any inkling her husband would commit suicide.
She said they had been married for 26 years and he regularly visited her in Hua Hin. She said he was always cheerful.
Mrs. Chuanchom said his husband recently had an argument over the phone with his brother who runs his business in Denmark.
Police released Mr. Villa’s body to the wife for burial.
