Five men were arrested and 1.7 million mathemphetamine pills and 40kg of "ice" or crystal methamphetamine seized in a police action on Saturday night, Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong revealed on Sunday.
Pol Gen Priewpan, the national police chief, said the large haul of drugs were seized on a tip-off by police after an airconditioned bus was stopped for a search in Bang Pahan district of Ayutthaya province at 11pm on Saturday.
Police arrested three men intially identified as Daochai, Surasak, and Pichet who were travelling on the bus. In a search of five suitcases in the luggage compartment, police found 1.7 million speed pills and 40kg of ice with a street value of about 500 million baht.
The three men said they had been hired for 300,000 baht deliver the drugs from Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province to two men identified only as Kosol and Prasit in Ayutthaya's Bang Pahan district.
Police later arrested Kosol and Prasit in Bang Pahan district.
