Police claim Bt8m cocaine bust
A Philippine woman was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Monday for allegedly smuggling 3,200 grams of cocaine into Thailand, senior police said Tuesday.
A police investigation had learned drug smugglers from the Philippines would bring a narcotic substance from Peru's Lima through Dubai and then to Bangkok on an Emirates Airline flight, said Police MajorGeneral Harnpol Nitwibul, deputy commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.
Police apprehended the female suspect - identified as Rivera Maria Elenita, 40 - and claim her backpack contained the cocaine. The suspect reportedly confessed to police she was hired for the first time to smuggle cocaine and deliver the drug to a man in Bangkok in exchange for Bt120,000.
